From now until their big July 30 Miracle Treat Day event, Dairy Queen customers can donate to Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, which is set to open in 2017. For every blizzard sold on July 30, Dairy Queen will donate $1.00. All funds raised at Dairy Queen, 2300 Buckthorne Place, will benefit the new hospital.
Now in its second year, Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day is an event to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit that benefits local hospitals as they “provide critical treatments, equipment and charitable care for kids in your community.”
Paulette Fiedler, our local Dairy Queen General Manager, is proud to say that more money has already been raised than last year, and that this year’s fundraising goal is $10,000.
“We have already started asking people to donate,” said Paulette. “If you donate a dollar, you get a dollar coupon that you can use on your next visit! … All the money that we are raising here at our DQ stays in The Woodlands and goes to the hospital building here.”
For every Miracle Treat Day, there is a very special Miracle Child that is honored. This year, it’s a six-year-old little girl named Deonc Bradley.
“When she was born,” recalls Deonc’s mother Desiree, “her father and I met with her NICU team at Texas Children’s. Her geneticist, Dr. Brendan Lee, put our heads together and came up with a plan. I got online and found out we were in unchartered territory.”
Deonc was born with Jarcho-Levin Syndrome, a rare genetic condition characterized by lungs and a rib cage that are too small for a growing body. For those who have a severe form of the condition, like Deonc, it is rare that they live past the age of two. Deonc is six, has an infectious smile, and is truly a Miracle Child.
“The hope is that eventually she will be able to breathe on her own,” said Desiree. “Until then, she’s my smiling, dancing, waving social butterfly.”
Dairy Queen is going all out this year to make this fun, family-friendly event a huge success. Although customers can stop by anytime during the operating hours to support Miracle Treat Day, the main event will be from 12:00/noon to 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 30.
“The most rewarding part for me personally is just seeing the children and the amounts of strength that they have,” said Paulette. “Our little girl (Deonc) wasn’t supposed to live past two, and here she is going to be walking through my door at age six. It just touches my heart in that way.”
For Deonc Bradley and all the children at Texas Children’s Hospital, help make their day a little brighter, and sweeter, by coming out to Miracle Treat Day and purchasing a blizzard. Every donation counts to help give hope to sick and injured children right here in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.
