An East Texas man caught a bullet in the jaw after he shot an armadillo and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in the face.
It all happened around 3:00 AM in Marietta, Texas, just southwest of Texarkana.
“His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo,” said Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe.
It’s not clear why he wanted to kill the armored critter, but what is clear is that he was in for a nasty shock. The creature’s hard shell deflected at least one of the bullets, making its way straight into the shooter’s face. After being airlifted to the hospital, the man is in stable condition, but had to have his jaw was wired shut.
The armadillo vanished into the night.
PS: It’s probably a bad idea to shoot turtles and tortoises too. Or snakes that are sunning on rocks.
