Mammograms, Prenatal Care, & More: Free & Low Cost Women’s Health Care in Greater Houston

One of the big concerns voiced over the potential defunding of Planned Parenthood, is that low income women will lose access to free or low cost medical services such as mammograms, cancer screenings, and prenatal and postnatal care. However, a young new mother from Texas had this to say:

“Medicaid covered my entire pregnancy from start to finish. I didn’t have to pay anything, and I didn’t need anything from Planned Parenthood. If you fall into a low enough income bracket, Medicaid will cover all your costs and lots of doctors take Medicaid. So really, you can go to any clinic or facility that accepts Medicaid. Then, after you have the baby, you can get help from WIC and CHIP.” – Kate, Texas

Republicans and Democrats alike have brought up the option of defunding the scandal-ridden abortion provider, and transferring those funds to other women’s health organizations. While it’s unclear which organizations those would be, it’s very clear that there is a plethora of free to low-cost women’s health resources in Texas, and for our readers, in The Greater Houston Area.

Below is an incomplete, but very lengthy list. If you know of a program or service provider not included here, please contact us so we can update this article! Please contact each provider to confirm services prior to your appointment should things have changed since we created this list.
