“It is with a heavy heart, and deep regret, that I announce the death of Detention Officer Tronoski Jones. Officer Jones passed away yesterday in the early morning hours following a confrontation with a combative and uncooperative inmate housed in the Harris County Sheriff’s 1200 Baker Street Jail.
“Today, I wish to share my deepest and most sincere condolences with Tronoski Jones’ family; his wife, two children, mother and extensive network of siblings and loved ones.
“Our work to protect the citizens of Harris County and enforce the laws of our state is an undertaking with ever present and inherent risk. The willingness to sacrifice and expose themselves to physical harm is a quality shared by the few who answer the call to service.
“Detention Officer Jones joined the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on November 21, 2011 as a detention officer and served with professionalism and honor for approximately three years and 10 months. The loss of Detention Officer Jones is felt throughout the ranks of the Sheriff’s Office, and our extended law enforcement community.”
