This is very scary! In Friendswood, just south of Houston, a criminal impersonating a police officer pulled a woman over. She was on her way home when she saw him behind her, flashing red and blue patrol lights.
The impersonator’s car was a Ford Crown Victoria (similar to the one shown above), there was no spotlight, and there were markings on the car that appeared to be scratched off. That’s when the woman began to get nervous.
A white man wearing a fake police badge, a faded shirt, and blue jeans approached her car. Convinced that something wasn’t right, the woman so sped off. She was able to lose the impersonator, drove home, and called 9-1-1.
Police are warning people that if they ever suspect that the officer pulling them over is not a real cop, do not pull over. Call 9-1-1 immediately and ask the operator to confirm that there is a real police officer pulling you over. If it is an impersonator, or you don’t have a phone with you, do not drive home! You don’t want the criminal finding out where you live or following you home. Instead, drive to the nearest police station.
Here are some photos of REAL Houston area police vehicles. Make sure you’re familiar with their markings so you can more easily spot an impostor:
