Just one day after her 11th birthday, Angeloy Oviedo was kidnapped. At around 6:30 on Tuesday evening, Angeloy saw that a chicken had escaped from its coop, and ran outside to catch it. As the little girl neared the road in front of her house, a bearded white man with blond hair and dark eyes offered to give her a ride in his low-lying black sedan. Angeloy refused.
“I thought [the chicken] was at the corner,” the little girl later explained, “But then I saw it a little ways into the woods. That’s when the car drove up alongside … and he forced me to get inside.”
The man grabbed Angeloy by the arm, and threatened her with a knife, before forcing her into his vehicle. The crime took place near the 16000 block of Holly Lane South in Montgomery.
Angeloy says the she noted cigars and a lighter in the man’s car. He drove her out of her neighborhood to an area she wasn’t familiar with, and pulled over at the edge of a field that was surrounded by trees.
“When he finally stopped driving, I got out of the car and started running into the forest,” the brave little girl said. “When I got out, he started yelling something, but I didn’t hear him ‘cause I just kept on running.”
Eventually, Angeloy was able to make her way through the unfamiliar woods and to a road that she recognized.
“I ran about 10 minutes. I had to be very careful to see if he was following or anything,” she said.
By the time Angeloy emerged from the woods it was dark, so she began following the road hoping to get home before her kidnapper spotted her. After about five minutes, a retired police officer and his family drove by, and stopped to ask Angeloy if she was alright. When Angeloy told her harrowing story, the officer invited her to get into his pickup truck and he took her home.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office searched the area but found no trace of the suspect. They are asking the public to assist with information and tips.
