Yes, we at The Pink Armadillo try to focus on inspirational stories. This story inspires us with the hope that some small effort is being made to keep the crazies in check. The Houston Police Department has charged Vidal Valladares, AKA, The Freeway Proposer, with obstruction of a highway, a Class B misdemeanor.
On Sunday, Vidal and a group of his feckless friends, drove parallel to each other on 1-45 near downtown Houston, and pulled to a stop in the middle of the freeway, blocking every single lane, much to the chagrin of everyone behind them.
As horns blared and tires screeched, Vidal and his heart’s desire, Michelle Wycoff, hopped out of their vehicles. Vidal proposed right there on the rubber-stained concrete with the Houston city skyline as a backdrop.
Apparently, the couple has many fond memories of riding a motorcycle down I-45, which is why Vidal chose it for their special moment.
“Honestly, I didn’t think about if it was a good idea or a bad idea,” said Michelle. “I was just so happy in the moment. I love him so much.”
Thankfully, no accidents were caused by the stunt. However, if Vidal thought a freeway proposal would be cheaper than a nice restaurant and a bottle of wine he was very wrong. The Reckless Romeo now faces up to 6 months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
According to HPD, charges may still be filed against Vidal’s friends who helped block traffic, and even his fiance Michelle could face some kind of penalty.
“I never really thought about causing an accident. I thought about my girlfriend,” Vidal explained.
Well, start thinking Vidal. If someone had died as a result of your antics, you’d probably be facing manslaughter charges.
