Have Some Listeria With Your Latte? Starbucks Recalls Breakfast Sandwiches

Thankfully no illness have been reported so far, but YIKES. Sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwiches that were sold at 250 Starbucks stores throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, have been recalled due to potentially deadly Listeria bacteria contamination.

Listeria is a nasty organism that can cause miscarriage or stillbirth in pregnant women; lethal infections in children, the elderly, and others with weak immune systems; and short-term but severe fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea in otherwise healthy individuals.

The sandwiches in question are marked “Best Before: 07-AUG-2016” and were sold on 3/3/16 and 3/4/16. The FDA said on its website that testing revealed the presence of the potentially deadly bacteria at the production facility of one of Starbuck’s suppliers, prompting the recall.
