Mother’s Day Beach Trip? Beach Bacteria High At These 5 Texas Beaches

Going to the beach on Mother’s Day weekend is a fabulous idea. The weather will be a sunny high of 81° with lows of 71.°. There will be a gentle southeast wind, and while it will be a bit humid, the chances of rain are 0% – 10%. Perfect Galveston weather! However, if you do plan to spend the day on the beach, be aware that five Galveston, Freeport, and Corpus Christi area beaches have tested dangerously high for fecal bacteria. You read that right: poop germs. High beach bacteria levels are indicative that other hazardous bacteria and parasites may also be present in the water. So, to avoid illness, or just a really gross experience, please consider avoiding the following beaches:

THE FOLLOWING BEACHES ARE TESTING HIGH FOR FECAL BACTERIA:

  • Country Road 257 off Follets Island
  • Stanek Drive in Freeport Harbor
  • Surfside 2nd Drive in Freeport Harbor
  • Surfside Jetty County Park
  • Corpus Christi Marina South

THE FOLLOWING BEACHES ARE TESTING MEDIUM FOR FECAL BACTERIA:

  • West Beach off Galveston Island
  • County Road 257 A+ near Follets Island
  • Surfside beach Recreational Area near Freeport
  • Beach Drive near Freeport
  • Quintana Beach County Park near Freeport
  • Palacios Pavilion East & West
  • Cole Park in Corpus Christi
  • Ropes Park #3 in Corpus Christi
  • South Padre Island Beach Circle near the Brazos Santiago Pass
