George H. W. Bush Honored Memorial Day in Kennebunkport

KENNEBUNKPORT — Former President George H. W. Bush and his wife, former first lady Barbara, braved the cold, misty weather to honor the nation’s fallen service men and women for the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony in Dock Square, Monday. Hundreds bundled up against the cold wind to join the Bushes, and former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft, a close friend of “41” who has a summer home near the Bush compound, Walker’s Point.

George H.W. Bush, 92, is the oldest living former president and served as a naval aviator during WWII. Scowcroft, also 92, is a retired Air Force lieutenant general who served as national security adviser to Presidents Gerald Ford and Bush.

Eileen Putnam and her mother, Ginny Putnam of Kennebunk braved the cold to honor the fallen members of the military as they do every year, but they were especially proud of the service of Eileen’s son, Eben Worthley, who cares for the former president as a home health aide while he’s in Kennebunkport.
