Happy Birthday Houston, Texas! Back in 1836, on August 30, the Bayou City was founded by J.K. and A.C. Allen. That was mere months after the Texas War for Independence was won. Named after General Sam Houston, the fledgling city was in the running to become the capitol of the Lone Star State. Besides a passionate Texas pride, that’s one reason why Houston tourists will find so many historic street names and attractions near the downtown area.
Indeed, Houston is steeped in Texas legend and history. So, starting Saturday, August 21, Mister McKinney will be hosting three spectacular events to celebrate Houston’s birthday, and the launch of the Houston History Bus.
“The Houston History Bus is an exciting educational project to raise awareness for our history and our culture,” explains Mister McKinney. “Houston has such a rich heritage, and many Houstonians sadly aren’t aware of it. The Houston History Bus is a retrofitted school bus. We’ve renovated it with a flat screen TV where we’ll display archival photos and compare them with modern architecture and local scenery as we tour our beautiful city.”
